Sankaradeva is a powerful medium for spreading the Vaishnava faith. Vaishnavism is among the significant Hindu denominations, along with Shaivism, Shaktism, and Smartism. It is also called Vishnuism since it considers Vishnu the supreme being leading all other Hindu deities. A classical dance form, the core of Sattriya dance is usually mythological stories. Traditionally Sattriya was performed only by Bhokots (Male monks) in Sattras as part of their daily rituals or to mark special festivals. Today female dancers, along with male dancers, perform on stage.
